How do I know if my loved one needs Memory Care?

While many seniors with early-stage dementia can live independently or with the help of family caregivers, those with greater cognitive decline may need help from specially trained dementia care professionals in a memory care community.

If your loved one is experiencing any of the following difficulties, memory care will provide the support they need for their safety and your piece of mind.

  • Have trouble remembering important appointments or bills
  • Unable to take medication appropriately
  • Do they get lost on routes they take frequently, such as going to the grocery store or taking a walk around the neighborhood
  • Have trouble remembering to eat or drink
  • Having trouble keeping up with basic hygiene
No two people with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia have the same experience. That’s why memory care requires a person-centered approach. Our expert staff will take the time to get to know your loved one on a personal level. From there, they will create a custom care plan to help your loved one reach a higher level of wellness. It’s about helping residents focus on what is possible as we help them find more purpose in each day. For example, if your loved one is often restless because of Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, memory care staff can give them structured activities to help them stay engaged throughout the day.

How do you accommodate special diets?

With nutrition being a cornerstone of overall health and wellness, dietary concerns are among the top reasons caregivers consider senior living arrangements for their aging loved ones. Many senior living communities employ culinary teams who develop well-rounded menus that maintain high nutritional standards and support a variety of dietary needs while delivering quality taste.

Can I afford HCR?

Seniors can use more than one source of funds and financial assistance to cover assisted living expenses. There are many options available, and seniors and their families should consider those that apply to their situation. Are you a veteran? Here is how to access Veteran’s benefits. Before taking risks with investments and assets or making major financial decisions, be sure to speak with a reputable financial advisor and possibly an elder law attorney. Local Area Agencies on Aging also provide free benefits counseling and information on government programs like Medicaid and other resources.

Do you accept insurance?

Most seniors cover assisted living expenses using private funds—often a combination of savings, Social Security benefits, pension payments and retirement accounts or Long-term Care insurance policies that they have purchased. However, there are some government programs and financial tools that can help, and it is important to ensure a senior takes advantage of all resources available to finance their long-term care.

What is the benefits of companion care suites?

Companion suites are a unique living option in many memory care communities. An alternative to private suites, companion suites can help seniors not only save money but also feel less isolated and lonely – and more connected to the community. For family caregivers who might feel nervous or guilty about moving a loved one to memory care, companion suites offer reassurance that a loved one won’t be making the transition alone.
